How Much Does an Epoxy Floor Cost? Material Costs for 500 and 1,000 Sq Ft Floors

Jason Larosa |

Most epoxy floor cost guides give you a wide range and leave the math to you. This one uses our actual kit prices and coverage rates to price two common floor sizes, 500 and 1,000 square feet, for the two most popular systems: a solid color floor and a decorative flake floor.

These are material costs only. They don't include shipping, tools, or renting a floor grinder for prep. Prices are as of October 2026.

Solid Color Epoxy Floor

A solid color floor is two coats of our Colored Epoxy Floor Coating Kits. Each kit size covers a set floor area, and these figures already include both coats:

  • 3 Quart Kit ($59.99): floors up to 75 sq ft
  • 1.5 Gallon Kit ($119.99): floors up to 150 sq ft
  • 3 Gallon Kit ($239.99): floors up to 300 sq ft
Floor size Kits Covers up to Material cost
500 sq ft One 3 Gallon, one 1.5 Gallon, one 3 Quart 525 sq ft $419.97
1,000 sq ft Three 3 Gallon, one 1.5 Gallon 1,050 sq ft $839.96

That works out to about $0.84 per sq ft at either size. If your floor falls between kit sizes, go up a size. Bare or freshly ground concrete soaks up much of the first coat, and running short is the number one cause of a patchy finish.

Decorative Flake Floor

A flake floor has three layers:

  1. Colored Epoxy base coat. One coat at about 250 sq ft per gallon.
  2. Flakes broadcast into the wet base coat. A full broadcast covers about 12 sq ft per pound.
  3. Clear top coat. Either Clear Epoxy or PP-80 Clear Polyaspartic, squeegeed and back-rolled at about 100 sq ft per gallon over a full broadcast.

Flakes below are priced with our Most Popular Color Flakes ($59.80 per 20 lb box, $119.60 per 40 lb box).

500 sq ft flake floor (full broadcast)

Layer What to buy Cost
Base coat One 1.5 Gallon + one 3 Quart Colored Epoxy kit (2.25 gal) $179.98
Flakes 60 lbs (one 40 lb + one 20 lb box) $179.40
Top coat: Clear Epoxy One 3 Gallon + one 1.5 Gallon + one 3 Quart kit (5.25 gal) $403.85
Top coat: PP-80 Clear (instead) Two 2 Gallon + two Half Gallon kits (5 gal) $474.86

Total: $763.23 with a Clear Epoxy top coat, or $834.24 with PP-80. That's about $1.53 to $1.67 per sq ft.

1,000 sq ft flake floor (full broadcast)

Layer What to buy Cost
Base coat One 3 Gallon + one 1.5 Gallon Colored Epoxy kit (4.5 gal) $359.98
Flakes 100 lbs (two 40 lb + one 20 lb box) $298.80
Top coat: Clear Epoxy Three 3 Gallon + one 1.5 Gallon kit (10.5 gal) $805.80
Top coat: PP-80 Clear (instead) Five 2 Gallon kits (10 gal) $949.75

Total: $1,464.58 with a Clear Epoxy top coat, or $1,608.53 with PP-80. That's about $1.46 to $1.61 per sq ft.

A lighter flake look costs less. A medium broadcast covers about 17 sq ft per pound and a light broadcast about 25, and the top coat can be dip-and-rolled at about 140 sq ft per gallon (medium) or 180 (light) instead of squeegeed.

Clear Epoxy or PP-80 for the Top Coat?

Clear Epoxy is the lower-cost top coat. Like all epoxy, it ambers in sunlight, so it's best for floors that don't get direct sun. PP-80 is UV stable and won't yellow, which makes it the better choice for garages with the door open, sunrooms, and outdoor areas.

Don't Skimp on Prep

Surface preparation decides whether any floor lasts. We recommend diamond grinding with a 60/80 grit grinder, which you can rent at most tool rental shops, or shot blasting. We don't recommend acid washing. Fill cracks with RS-98 joint filler and vacuum thoroughly before you coat.
